From Lockdown to Legendary: The Origin Story of The Sidecar

In the depths of 2020, the world hit pause. We stayed home, stayed “safe”, and discovered all sorts of quirks about our homes and spaces. For me, though, the biggest revelation was how much I missed cooking with friends and family. So like many other things, we created new experiences outside! Grilling and entertaining for friends and family outside was normal in the most un-normal of times. But I soon realized that I had a problem—I didn’t have enough space to do it right.

It all came to a head one evening when I had friends over for a socially distanced patio dinner. I was juggling a tray of ribeye steaks and trying to prep sides on the tiny shelf attached to my grill. That’s when disaster struck. The tray tipped, and those beautiful steaks hit the ground. In that moment, I had two thoughts: 1) Five-second rule? Yep! And 2) There’s got to be a better way to do this.

A Better Way to Entertain Outside

That night, I started sketching ideas for an outdoor kitchen island—something that could handle the chaos of cooking outside while still looking sleek and modern. I wanted something more than just a “table.” It needed to be a full-service station with space to prep, store, and clean up, all without running in and out of the house every five minutes. The concept was simple: an outdoor kitchen island that worked as hard as I did, so I could spend less time scrambling and more time with the people I care about.

Three Years, Many Prototypes, and a Lot of Feedback

Over the next three years, I spent my weekends bringing the concept to life. I built prototypes in my garage, tested them out during backyard barbecues, and gathered feedback from friends, family, and anyone who’d listen. Every version got a little better—stronger materials, smarter design, and a layout that truly made outdoor cooking seamless.

The result? The Sidecar. A 100% stainless steel outdoor kitchen island with:

  • 10 square feet of workspace to chop, prep, and plate without feeling cramped.

  • A restaurant-style speed rack to keep your go-to ingredients and tools within arm’s reach.

  • An electrical power strip for your blender, lights, or speakers.

  • Separate areas for storage and trash, so cleanup is as easy as the cooking.

Why The Sidecar Matters

The Sidecar isn’t just a product; it’s a game-changer for anyone who loves outdoor entertaining. It’s about giving you more time to connect with your guests instead of running back and forth to the kitchen. It’s about keeping the steaks on the grill where they belong (and off the ground). And most importantly, it’s about creating memories that last long after the grill has cooled.

Don’t Ghost Your Guests

When we were stuck inside, we all realized how much we missed connecting with others. Now that we can gather again, The Sidecar makes it easier than ever to entertain outdoors and stay in the moment. So whether you’re hosting a casual family dinner, a pizza party or the neighborhood’s biggest backyard bash, The Sidecar has you covered.

Don’t ghost your guests. Get a Sidecar and love the pursuit of good livin’.
